At the beginning of a new school year (2013/2014) the
community of Szkoła Podstawowa nr 2 w Leżajsku (Leżajsk Primary School No. 2) tried out one of a dozen or so examples of “good practice” suggested
by the representatives of the partner institutions at the Istanbul teachers’ meeting
three months earlier. The pupils from Leżajsk chose one of the Berlin school’s ideas to be implemented –
5 Rules. During English classes they first
worked out some fundamental school environment rules in two languages – English
and Polish, and then propagated them in the form of big posters (made during
Art and Design lessons; placed on the school building walls) and a PowerPoint presentation (made during ICT lessons; put on the official school website).
Preparing the set of the school rules and its artwork was
a great opportunity for the pupils to express their opinions, get to know how
to work in a group properly, as well as improve their language, design and ICT
skills.
The “fair
play” task, carried out almost entirely by the pupils themselves, and meant for
themselves, brought about a considerable drop in young people’s misbehaviour in
the school.
Here are some of the posters:
